The Homestake Operations Instrumentation and Control Specialist Senior position is based at the Otero Pump Station and supports the Homestake Water Project, a partnership between Colorado Springs Utilities and Aurora Water. Therefore, the selected candidate must reside in the general vicinity of Buena Vista, Colorado to meet the service territory requirements.

This role is responsible for maintaining and upgrading a vast trans mountain water systems Scada, Historical databases, instrumentation, control systems, and the associated communication systems. This position is essential to the transmission of the finest water to our customers in Colorado Springs and Aurora, Colorado. Your expert knowledge will be utilized to ensure the effective operation and maintenance of the equipment across our system.

A successful Instrumentation and Control Specialist Senior is responsible for a variety of challenging opportunities such as:

  • Designs, programs and maintains the day to day operations of the SCADA System at the Otero Pump Station.

  • Ensures the reliability of the SCADA System by performing regular routine preventative maintenance on the SCADA System.

  • Performs upgrades of the Server software, hardware, to maintain the reliability and continued functionality of the SCADA System.

  • Designs and maintains the day to day operations of the Historian and Alarm and Events SQL databases by performing regular data integrity checks.

  • Maintains the reliability of the databases by performing regular archiving and backups of the databases.

  • Adds relevant data points to the Database when necessary.

  • Builds and generates system reports and trends using the archived data to analyze data acquired in the operation of the Homestake Water Project System.

  • Builds, maintains and performs hardware upgrades on all SCADA Servers at the Homestake Water Project.

  • Ensures relevant security and operational patches are applied.

  • Programs and maintains the Homestake Water Project RTU’s.

  • Maintains the communications with the RTU’s.

  • Programs and maintains the operations of the Esteem VHF Radio network.

Desirable Skills include:

  • Scada system programming. (GE Ifix preferred)

  • Experience with Historical Plant Databases. (GE Historian preferred)

  • Familiarity with SQL

  • Familiarity with Windows Servers and Domains.

  • Familiarity with networking.

  • Experience with RTU Programming

  • Experience with Instrumentation and Controls is desired

Schedule: The selected candidate will need to be flexible in the 24/7/365 operation of the Homestake System.

What will it take to be successful? We are looking for candidates who have a familiarity with the Homestake System, or systems similar in size and/or scope. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated relevant experience in troubleshooting, designing, repairing, and calibrating communication, instrumentation and control systems and related equipment.
