Colorado Springs Utilities Business Account Management Team is looking for a consultative, customer-success oriented professional to help us establish, manage, and enhance relationships with our large business customers. In this position, you will lean on your utility (water, wastewater, gas, electric) expertise to lead strategic communication, account planning, and implementation efforts for energy and water management strategies. This includes helping our business customers leverage data, trends, renewables, water conservation, and other demand response programs offered by Colorado Springs Utilities, in-order-to streamline energy usage, realize cost savings and increase customer satisfaction.

Our team consists of Key Account Managers and Customer Managers. The level that this position will be hired at will be determined by the relevant experience, knowledge, and education of the selected candidate.

  • Pay range for the Customer Manager is $72,217 to $90,272

  • Pay range for the Key Account Manager is $87,443 to $109,203

As a Mid-Market Customer Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Cultivating and managing relationships with large business customers, proactively providing utility expertise

  • Managing the planning and distribution of monthly sector communications to over 1000+ customers

  • Making quality decisions based on a mixture of analysis, experience, and judgment

  • Communicating with decision-makers and seeking opportunities to increase customer satisfaction

  • Interpreting and applying laws and regulations

  • Serving as the point of contact for understanding business customer needs and utility consumption patterns

  • Assuming leadership roles in associations

  • Providing solutions to mid-market customer issues and coordinate programs to meet business customer needs

  • Working with internal partners across the organization to deliver solutions and services to customers

  • Advising customers on demand-side management, water conservation, and renewable opportunities

As a Key Account Manager, in addition to the Customer Manager responsibilities, key duties will include:

  • Planning, implementing and managing all activities on behalf of our largest strategic customers through politically sensitive issues

  • Communicating with high-level executive decision-makers

  • Managing large customer projects and programs

  • Utilizing financial and risk analysis, as well as technical utility knowledge to manage complex utility issues

  • Developing account plans, including milestones, resource requirements, and deliverables

  • Negotiating complex contracts associated with utility service

What is needed to be successful?

As a Mid-Market Customer Manager , most people will have a bachelor's degree and two (2) years of account management or marketing experience while the ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in utility industry regulations and trends as well as technological concepts and processes as they relate to the utility industry.

As a Key Account Manager , most people will have a bachelor’s degree and at least five (5) years of account management experience in the utility industry working with large, complex customers and a proven track record of success in building relationships within these groups. Experience with all 4 services (electric, gas, water, and wastewater) is highly preferred.

  • Poised in verbal and written communication so that you can effectively manage marketing communications and stakeholder engagement internally and externally

  • Experience in delivering customer-focused solutions
