Who You Are: A critical thinker who can navigate the evolving and everchanging technology landscape with the willingness to research and review creative solutions, new and existing challenges, with expertise to handle our most complex processes, issues and perform the highest-level technical responsibilities in the Database Administration space. This position's core responsibility is to maintain the enterprise database environment; our current database environment is comprised of both Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server. Key Areas of Focus:

  • Database Administration: Oracle (required) / SQL Server (a plus)

  • Backup and recovery

  • Installation and setup

  • Database and related software Configuration

  • Monitoring with OEM and scripts

  • Database and environment Patching

  • Troubleshooting access and performance

  • Oracle Golden Gate (OGG) (experience a plus)

  • Engage and participate on project teams

  • Mentoring to others on DBA team

  • Participate in On-Call rotation (every 4-6 weeks; with 7 day on-call coverage)

  • Oracle RAC and ASM management

  • Database Encryption and compression

What will it take to be successful in this role? To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will come with solid foundational and demonstrated knowledge and experience in the following:

  • Software Installation and Maintenance

  • Collaborate on the initial installation and configuration of new Oracle and SQL Server databases

  • Data Extraction, Transformation, and Loading

  • Assist and lead data extraction, transformation, loading, and importing large volumes of data that have been extracted from multiple systems into a data warehouse environment

  • Specialized Data Handling

  • Managing a very large database (VLDB) will quire higher-level skills and additional monitoring and tuning to maintain efficiency.

  • Database Backup and Recovery

  • Create backup and recovery plans and procedures based on industry best practices, then make sure that the necessary steps are followed.

  • Security

  • The Database Administration Specialist will need to know potential weaknesses of the database software and the company’s overall system and work to minimize risks.

  • Authentication

  • Control who has access and what type of access they are allowed.

  • Capacity Planning

  • Need to know how large the database currently is and how fast it is growing in order to make predictions about future needs.

  • Performance Monitoring

  • Monitor databases for performance issues are part of the on-going system maintenance a DBA performs.

  • Database Tuning

  • Performance monitoring shows where the database should be tweaked to operate as efficiently as possible.

  • Troubleshooting

  • This role will be on call for troubleshooting in case of any problems.

  • Communication skills

  • Work with DBA and project teams by communicating effectively with colleagues, managers, consultants and other workers.

  • Detail-oriented

  • The Database Administrator will not only need to have an understanding of complex systems, but how a minor error can cause major problems.
