Distribution and Collection Specialist Apprentice
The Distribution and Collection Specialist Apprenticeship at Colorado Springs Utilities prepares participants to become journey-level Distribution and Collection Specialist.
The program is registered with the Department of Labor (DOL). Apprentices are paid employees who produce high-quality work while they learn skills. The program consists of on-the-job learning which develops skilled workers through structured learning in a work setting. The apprenticeship also provides apprentices with the support of a skilled worker to assist and enhance critical hands-on learning.
The Distribution and Collection Specialist apprenticeship is a four-year, eight-step on-the-job learning and technical instructional program. Each of the four years is separated into "blocks", and the blocks contain self-study lessons and identify the required assessments and task performance evaluations (TPEs). The participant progresses through the program by successfully fulling the required blocks and completing the required review processes. Upon successful completion at each Step in the program, you will be provided with a pay increase according to the Distribution and Collection Specialist Apprentice Pay Schedule.
This apprenticeship requires completion of certain state certifications which requires passing a state proctored exam with a score of 70% or better. In order to take the state exam, you must have a high school diploma or GED. Study material is provided to each apprentice ant the following certifications will be obtained during the apprenticeship:
Wastewater Collections I Certification (within year 1)
Wastewater Collection II Certification (within year 3)
Restricted Use Pesticide License (RUP) with Category 113 Metam Sodium (within year 4)
After completion of the program, a nationally – recognized credential will be issued to the apprentice. We are committed to your development and success!
A high school diploma or GED is required
Compliance with all construction and maintenance safety regulations and standard operating procedures is required
A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a CDL Class A license within one year of hire is required
Available to work overtime hours, available for emergency after-hours callouts, 7 days a week
Work all shifts and may rotate to days as business needs
As an apprentice, you are not permitted to apply for other jobs within Colorado Springs Utilities until the four-year apprenticeship has been completed.
Who you are…
While most people will have at least 2 years of construction experience, we are also seeking candidates with wastewater construction experience as it relates to the operation and maintenance of the collection or distribution systems. Driving a Colorado Springs Utilities vehicle is required, so the candidate selected must have a valid driver’s license, CDL Class A license is preferred, or have the ability to obtain and maintain within one year of hire.

Starting pay will be determined at the time of offer based on the experience, education, and training of the successful candidate.
