In 1924, Colorado Springs voted to create a four-service utility of electricity, natural gas, water, and wastewater services. Since then, as a municipal utility, our focus has been providing exceptional customer service while keeping costs low. Colorado Springs Utilities was recently awarded the Diamond Designation from the American Public Power Association (APPA). The Diamond status is the highest awarded by the APPA, recognizing our utility for having some of the highest ratings in reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvements, among the more than 2,000 public utilities in the nation.
Colorado Springs Utilities is looking to hire a dedicated and driven Electric Meter Specialist to join our Advanced Metering Technology team. You will join a tight-knit and experienced team that is responsible for the measurement accuracy of all meters used by the Colorado Springs community, which ensures their proper installation and functionality.
Why should you apply to this role?
The Advanced Metering Technology team provides expertise and guidance vital to Colorado Springs Utilities' responsibility for timely and accurate metering. You will be the subject matter expert for addressing a variety of electric meter questions from external and internal customers and troubleshooting problems. This role is very hands-on and you will operate on a rotating schedule of working both in the shop and out in the Colorado Springs community, all while handling a variety of electric metering tasks and duties. We will provide you with opportunities to stay on top of the latest trends in metering by using the latest technology and mentoring the next wave of Electric Meter Specialists through our apprenticeship program.
Your job responsibilities include...
Installing, exchanging, and disconnecting both self-contained and transformer-rated electric meters and related equipment
Performing inspections and ensuring proper operation of electric meters through testing, programming, repairs, and beta testing
Ensuring meter compliance with standards and specifications
Maintaining meter testing equipment to comply with industry standards
Maintaining records and entering daily meter transactions into multiple applications
Providing technical assistance and support to staff and customers
Who you are...
You are likely someone who has completed a Department of Labor certified electric meter specialist apprenticeship - or a non-registered apprenticeship program sponsored by an employer - and has at least two years of hands-on experience as a journeyman. For applicants who have not completed a certified apprenticeship, you ideally have at least five years of experience in advanced electric metering. You possess advanced knowledge of electric metering to include self-contained, transformer-rated, and primary metering, along with progressive experience and familiarity analyzing, testing, and programming electric meters to meet specifications. In addition to the technical aspects of this job, you are achievement-oriented and excel at remaining composed and positive even during the most challenging situations. Furthermore, your strong interpersonal and communication skills enable you to build meaningful and productive relationships with your team and customers in the community.
