As an Electrical Distribution Engineer , you will join an enthusiastic team of knowledgeable engineers responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and grid modernization of Colorado Springs' electric distribution system. Our team leads and supports all efforts regarding the 12.5kV and 34.5kV distribution systems, providing a unique and diverse range of tasks supporting Planning and Operations on a daily basis. In this role, you will help determine long-term future-growth patterns, identify potential constraints on our system, and work with the team to develop the scope, rough order of magnitude estimate, and timeline for innovative solutions on our electric distribution system. How Will You Make an Impact?
Performing circuit analysis reviews for loading, phase balancing, voltages, reactive power, protection coordination, and contingency planning using Synergi® Electric modeling software
Supporting long-term small area forecast studies and strategies that incorporate considerations of capacitor placement, Distributed Energy Resource (DER) placement, Electric Vehicle (EV) saturation, and Demand Side Management (DSM) programs to optimize asset usage using LoadSEER forecasting tool
Developing system improvement projects with a study plan including assumptions, results, alternatives analyses, and cost estimates to support capital budget preparation
Providing design reviews, technical training, and project support to Field Engineers and other internal stakeholders
Coordinating line protection devices including reclosers, line fuses, and interrupter switches while working with the System Protection Engineer to recommend distribution feeder breaker settings
Performing project planning, project management, and asset management initiatives, as well as being a data steward to ensure information from the field gets back to the models and systems
Support the electric distribution planning, protection, and design guides with criteria analysis for electrification, DER, EV, and general improvements
Participating in Standby Rotation 24/7 approximately one week per month to support Operations, and performing investigations for electrical contacts (standby compensation provided)
Who You Are
Please note that this position will be filled at either an Engineer III or Engineer IV level depending on the experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications of the selected candidate.
Progressively responsible electric distribution engineering experience
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required; a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering is valued
Engineer in Training (EIT) and Professional Engineer (PE) certifications are valued (ability to obtain within two years of hire)
Experience using Synergi Electric and LoadSEER modeling software is beneficial
Ability and desire to lead, mentor, train, and support field and support engineers on various projects and skillsets
Ability to tailor communication and information in a way that ensures understanding and secures buy-in and trust
