Energy Operations Distribution Superintendent

This job is eligible for relocation assistance.**

We are seeking a leader in electric energy distribution to join our Energy Services Division at Colorado Springs Utilities. As the Energy Operations Distribution Superintendent, you will be responsible for the management of the distribution operations control center, system restoration, and operational planning process of the power delivery system for a 24-hour day operation and will be responsible for leading and coaching through a variety of challenging opportunities such as:

  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring short and long-term strategies and annual business plans to achieve the organizational mission, goals and performance measures

  • Monitoring and operation in accordance with all regulatory and company policies

  • Operation of the outage management system, operational distribution system planning, emergency planning and coordination

  • Managing and implementing projects and activities in the Distribution Control Operation including scheduling, resource planning, and special projects.

  • Researching new technologies/process improvement; develops and implements policies and processes to improve reliability and customer service

  • Acting in the role of Incident Commander during system disturbances and other related emergencies and ensures proper response and appropriate level of resources are employed

  • Implementing system-wide emergency response plan as needed

  • Serving on various project teams and task forces

  • Developing O&M budgets and respond to any deviations from the approved cost/timeline projections. Authorize purchase of and payment for required equipment and services

  • Write daily, weekly, and/or monthly reports and write technical descriptions of problems and solutions.

  • Coordinate division/section activities with other divisions/sections/outside contractors.

  • Consult with engineers and manufacturers’ representatives regarding design or procedural changes for improved efficiency and reliability.

  • Providing leadership by making hiring and pay decision, developing performance plans, directing work, coaching/developing staff and evaluating the performance

Who you are...

We are looking for candidates who have experience and knowledge of Electrical Distribution Systems, 34.5kV substation transmission, 12.5kV distribution systems, and leadership experience. Our ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in a business or technical field of study and/or 7 or more years of relevant Distribution System experience. This job will require the ability to work both independently, as well as develop and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with individuals and groups. Previous leadership is a plus.

This job is eligible for relocation assistance to aid with the costs associated with moving to the Colorado Springs area. The amount offered for relocation assistance is based on the distance from Colorado Springs.
