In 1924, Colorado Springs voted to create a four-service utility of electricity, natural gas, water, and wastewater services. Colorado Springs Utilities is excited to hire a Project Manager to join our System Planning and Projects Division. In this position, you will be responsible for collaborating with other project managers, project sponsors, and departments to deliver electric and natural gas infrastructure projects meeting established objectives, milestones, performance metrics, and deliverables.
Colorado Springs Utilities’ Electric and Gas Integrated Resource Plans (IRPs) have identified numerous projects for the next 30 years to ensure our organization can continue to reliably provide electric and gas service to the Colorado Springs community. Your role will be pivotal to our success, as you will be primarily responsible for directing, facilitating, and/or delivering these projects, including oversight and coordination of internal and external construction, spanning over the next 30 years. You will help reduce Colorado Springs Utilities' carbon footprint and set a new trajectory for natural gas and electric services!
Your job responsibilities include...
Leading project teams by assembling appropriate personnel, assigning roles and responsibilities, and building team cohesion
Directing project meetings and preparing formal and informal project communications
Identifying, assessing, and recommending solutions for issues to management to proactively facilitate project progression and resolution
Developing and updating project charters, project plans, cost estimates, schedules, contract documents, and project closeout documentation
Initiating procurement of materials, resources, equipment, and services (i.e., consultant and construction contracts, permitting, inspections)
Tracking, monitoring, analyzing, and reporting project quality, costs, schedule, and scope status
Driving timely completion of project activities, as well as efficient and cost-effective use of time, materials, and resources
Who you are...
This position will either be filled at the Project Manager II or III level, as business needs demand. We are seeking the following education, experience, and skills:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or a closely related field is preferred.
As a Project Manager II, qualified candidates will offer four to six years of experience managing all phases of projects ranging in size, up to one million dollars, preferably in construction. Pay range for a PM II is $81,000 to $102,000 a year.
As a Project Manager III, qualified candidates will bring seven or more years of demonstrated experience managing high-level, advanced construction projects, utilities preferred. Additionally, possessing a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and familiarity with PM Web, is highly beneficial. Knowledge of electric and natural gas infrastructure (power generation, substations, natural gas pipelines) is also helpful. Pay range for PM III $89,000 to $112,000 a year.
In addition to the technical aspects of this job, you excel at remaining composed under pressure, taking initiative and driving projects forward, communicating and sharing information effectively and appropriately, possess sound critical thinking and decision-making ability, and strong interpersonal skills that will allow you to establish effective internal and external relationships with contractors, Utilities staff, and suppliers. This role will also require you to hone your leadership capability through leading project teams in ways that result in successful performance and facilitate team cohesion and productivity.
