Gas Construction Maintenance Specialist (Hourly)

Colorado Springs Utilities’ Gas Construction Quality Control and Inspections team is hiring a Gas Construction Maintenance Specialist. This is an incredible opportunity to gain specialized training and knowledge in gas construction and quality control standards.

In this job, you will be responsible for overseeing scheduled gas standby appointments, providing oversight for contractors and excavators who are exposing and crossing natural gas mains and service lines. You will perform thorough inspections of all construction conflicts and utility crossings that are occurring near gas pipelines ensuring that Colorado Springs Utilities’ mandated clearance regulations are adhered to by all contractors and excavators crossing any gas facilities. You will work daily with internal and external customers to ensure the safety of our infrastructure and the property of others. Who you are…

  • Ideal candidates will offer two or more years of construction experience

  • The selected candidate must obtain and maintain operator qualifications (OQ) after initial training, in tasks related to pipe coatings, wrapping and taping, tracer wire, anodes, and test stations, and excavation and compaction standards

  • Must have the ability to plan, coordinate, and meet the needs of customer scheduled gas standby appointments

  • A valid driver’s license is required

  • Colorado Springs Utilities’ Natural Gas Distribution System

  • Gas Line Extensions and Service Standard Manuals, as you establish consistency in maintaining and implementing these gas standards and requirements

  • Federal Pipeline Safety Regulations for steel and plastic gas mains, as it relates to clearance/separation requirements

  • Gas pipeline, and plastic fusion procedures

  • This position is classified as an "Hourly” position. As such, if hired, you will be considered an at-will, supplemental full-time, non-exempt employee.
