Gas Pipefitter / Gas Pipefitter Specialist
The Pipefitter role will be responsible for a full range of duties associated with Gas pipeline installations and maintenance including the supervision and leadership of the crews in the absence of the crew supervisor. Additional responsibilities include ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and safety procedures pertaining to the Gas industry; maintaining records of work performed and materials used; training personnel; operating construction equipment to install new piping and to expose existing piping; pinpointing the location of leaks and classifying type, and ensuring that underground utilities have been located and job sites are safe by using proper barricades.
This position will be filled at either the Gas Pipefitter or Gas Pipefitter Specialist level; placement will be based on the qualifications and experience level of the successful candidate.
Gas Pipefitter: $26.90 to $30.94
Gas Pipefitter Specialist: $29.65 to $34.10
This position is designated as a first responder for emergencies. The successful candidate will be required to live in the service territory or move into the service territory within 5 months of hire, and receive at least one utility service (gas, electric, or water). It will also require the successful candidate to pull stand-by, overtime, weekends, holidays, and 24-hour call outs as the business need demand. In addition, you will work in hazardous conditions, and subject to working in inclement weather.
In this role, the Pipefitter would be responsible for:
Technically proficient with tools and equipment associated with the installation and maintenance of the Distribution system.
Connecting and inspecting of gas mains and service lines.
Safe handling of gas main/service lines.
Operating gas construction excavation equipment.
Complying with regulations/laws/procedures
Obtaining and Maintaining Operator Qualification Certification
In addition to the Pipefitter duties, a Pipefitter Specialist will also:
Providing technical guidance and training others
Technically proficient with tools and equipment associated with the installation and maintenance of the Distribution system
Connecting and inspecting of gas service lines
Installing main/service lines
Locating and classifying leaks
Inspecting/locating underground pipelines
Operating gas construction equipment
Operating leak detection equipment
Ideally, you will have successfully completed a Gas Pipefitter Apprentice program (DOL or NDOL) or have 4 or more years of relevant experience installing and repairing gas mains and service lines. Additionally, one-year experience at the journey gas pipefitter level is required to qualify for the Specialist level. Driving a Colorado Springs Utilities vehicles is a requirement of this position, as such the successful candidate needs to have a Class A Commercial Driver's license (tank and airbrake endorsements preferred). Confined Space certification is a plus.
