We are looking for an individual who has the desire and self-motivation to join our team as a Gas Pipefitter – Journey Level . This challenging and rewarding opportunity is responsible for the construction and maintenance of Colorado Springs natural gas distribution system which provides service to over 168,000 residents and businesses.

This job is responsible for a full range of challenging duties associated with Gas pipeline installations and maintenance. Examples include ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and safety procedures pertaining to the Gas Pipeline industry. Maintaining accurate records of work performed and materials used, safely operating construction equipment to install new piping and to expose existing piping, and ensuring that underground utilities have been located properly and job sites are safe by using proper barricades.

This role will require working overtime, weekends, holidays, and 24-hour call outs as the business need demand. In addition, there will be times you will work in challenging conditions, respond to emergencies, and is subject to working in all types of weather conditions.

In this role, you would be responsible for:

  • Technically proficient with tools and equipment associated with the installation and maintenance of the Distribution system.

  • Connecting and inspecting of gas mains and service lines.

  • Safe handling of gas main/service lines.

  • Operating gas construction excavation equipment.

  • Tapping pipelines

  • Complying with regulations/laws/procedures

  • Obtaining and Maintaining Operator Qualification Certification

What does it take to be successful in this job? We are looking for someone who has 4 or more years of gas experience within the utility industry and/or has completed a gas pipefitter apprenticeship program. Driving a Colorado Springs Utilities vehicles is a requirement of this position, as such the successful candidate must have a Class A Commercial Driver's license or the ability to obtain and maintain within 6 months of hire. We are most interested in your expertise in the following areas so be sure to highlight this on your application and/or resume:

  • Plastic fusion qualifications such as socket fusion, butt fusion and/or electro fusion required.

  • Distribution line installation excavation and compaction standards required

  • Gas material knowledge required

  • Tapping and stopping experience preferred T 101, and short stop II preferred

  • Basic corrosion background or experience preferred

  • Knowledge of safety procedures, trenching, shoring, etc.…

  • Knowledge of Operators Qualifications required

  • Leak search experience preferred

  • Working knowledge of DOT Gas Pipeline Safety laws preferred
