Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking a Trader Supervisor to join the Energy Supply team. In this job, you will be responsible for the oversight of the natural gas and fuels trading staff. This position will supervise all gas and fuels trading and scheduling activities and handle contract negotiations.
Key Areas of Focus:
Supervise natural gas and fuel trading and scheduling activities
Perform short and long-term price, budget and load forecasts
Monitor and collect market intelligence and acts on this information to create value, including through monetary profits, reliable fuel deliveries and prudent natural gas local distribution company supply operations
Optimize gas and fuel assets to ensure low cost reliable energy delivery and to produce maximum profits to credit associated supply costs
Provide input into natural gas and other energy portfolio hedging strategies
Negotiate short and long-term purchases and sales contracts
Forecast resources / asset acquisitions needed to meet future requirements
Develop and maintains positive relationships with multiple third parties involved in the purchase, sales, transmission, and transportation of energy
Perform financial modeling and risk assessments
Execute financial derivatives in accordance with hedge policy criteria and objectives
Resolve scheduling disputes and manage relationships with gas and fuel counter parties
Respond to changing load and supply resource situations, some of which may be volatile and requiring resolution within short timelines
Write proposals and prepare technical documentation
Provide expertise of trading methods and operations to other divisions including legal, finance, and rates to support achievement of corporate goals and objectives
Participate in industry forums and organizations to support Springs Utilities’ ideals and needs
Who your are… the successful Gas Supply Trader Supervisor will have a comprehensive understanding of the energy commodities and financial markets and have a strong working knowledge of Energy Trading and Risk Management systems and provide continuous guidance and leadership to the Gas and Fuels Traders. Additionally, at least five years of demonstrated experience in power, natural gas or related trading areas. This job requires excellent presentation and communication skills, strong analytical skills, and the ability to exemplify strong attention to detail and capacity to multi-task and prioritize jobs independently. Typical candidates will come with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or related field and related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (a graduate degree is a plus).
