Information Technology Solutions Architect
Colorado Springs Utilities is looking for an IT Solutions Architect to help tackle the exciting & challenging opportunities ahead as we seek to transform our digital business capabilities. We are embarking on a dramatic technological journey toward smart utility capabilities and grid modernization and we will need an innovative, forward thinking Solutions Architect to help ensure the success of many large-scale enterprise initiatives. The person selected for this job will provide the necessary leadership, direction and support for developing standards and ensuring architectural principles are understood and appropriately leveraged for Enterprise Technology.
What you will do:
Develop and manage solution architecture and systems design for individual projects and for a broader scope of initiatives at the enterprise level
Ensure solution architecture is supportive of business strategy and achieves required business capabilities
Define guidelines, architectural standards, and solution patterns to ensure alignment with the long-term technology strategy
Support the evolution of the application portfolio from current to future state
Facilitate the evaluation and selection of software product standards and services, as well as the design of standard and custom software configurations
Participate in architecture review processes and ratification of designs
Perform critical assessment of existing architecture to identify performance improvements, enhanced security posture, application rationalization and lifecycle replacement opportunities
Deep knowledge and experience in designing robust, high volume cloud based solutions (PaaS, SaaS and IaaS) and on-premise enterprise systems
Working knowledge of structure and behavior of standard programming languages and deep understanding of the systems development life cycle
Possesses a strong understanding of disaster recovery and high availability architecture and systems design
Broad knowledge and experience with multiple technologies such as Java, Microsoft .NET, application servers, integration hubs, n-tier applications, database management systems and open source trends
Clear understanding of object-oriented design principles
Experience in software and system modeling, e.g. UML and ArchiMate is a plus

What will it take to be successful in this position?
The ideal candidate will come with a Bachelor's degree in an IT discipline and significant demonstrated experience as a Solutions, Applications, and/or Domain Architect and familiar with the principals of The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF). Deep expertise on the structure and behavior of application and integration technologies, the data supporting these technologies and the supported business functions. The person filling this role will be a top level technical expert and visionary, responsible for development of strategy, design and implementation of technology to support business strategy.
