Intermediate Network Engineer

Colorado Springs Utilities Network Enterprise Service Portfolio Department is seeking an Intermediate Network Engineer to join our talented networking team. In this job, you will be responsible for managing diverse and growing Information Technology (IT) and Operation Technology (OT) networks that support Utilities’ Electric, Gas, Water, and Wastewater Operations. Additionally, proactively ensure the security, stability, and integrity of our data center to ensure maximum productivity and availability, with an emphasis on technical accuracy and compliance with our standards, procedures, and policies. Key areas of focus:

  • Install, monitor, maintain, support, and optimize all network hardware, software, and communication links; may make recommendations for improvements and upgrades

  • Troubleshoot network performance issues; create and maintains network availability management processes and techniques

  • Test and validate all new circuits, hardware, and connections for proper configuration and performance; ensures all equipment and cabling are installed to guarantee network reliability

  • Design, install and maintain DC infrastructure systems in accordance with BICSI DC Standards and Industry Best Practices

  • Plan, coordinate, and schedule the installation and removal of cable infrastructure utilizing cabling vendors under-documented Statements of Work and Task Orders.

  • Conduct audits and inspections of cabling infrastructure, identifying components requiring repair or replacement. Plan and schedule necessary plant maintenance activities.

  • Maintain cabling and communication room capacity plans and access cable termination documents for each communication room

  • Plan, coordinate and schedule the installation and removal of equipment (i.e., servers, storage, appliances, and network equipment) in the Data Center

  • Configure and maintain the networks for an optimal balance of performance, availability, resiliency, and security

  • Through lifecycle, continuous improvement, and project initiatives, adopt new network technologies and tools to improve network efficiencies and system operations

Who you are: You will have an Associate’s degree in computer science, telecommunications, computer networking, or a closely related field or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Additionally, 2 to 4 years of progressive experience as a network technician. BICSI certifications in Cabling Installation, Data Center Design, or Outside Plant Design are highly desirable.
