Journey Level Instrumentation Electric and Control Specialist Senior

Colorado Springs Utilities Water/Wastewater Instrumentation Electric & Control Section is seeking a Journey Level Instrumentation Electric and Control Specialist Senior to install, test, diagnose, maintain and repair electrical and Instrument equipment for our vast water/wastewater collection and water distribution systems that is spread throughout the city and state of Colorado. Use your journey level industrial electrical expertise to support the efforts in maintaining clean water for beautiful Colorado Springs.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Installing, repairing, calibrating and maintaining all electrical equipment associated with a Water/Wastewater collection and water distribution systems including:

  • 480-volt Motor Control Centers (MCCs)

  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)

  • Calibrating, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, tuning, and repair of Instrumentation, telemetry, radio communications, control circuits, SCADA and electronic equipment.

  • Write complex RTU/PLC programs for the SCADA system that allows remote control of pump stations and control valves.

  • Work with communication protocols and perform data analysis to optimize data communications system.

  • Understand theory and practical design of SCADA systems.

  • Maintaining and updating electrical schematics, blueprints and as-built drawings Documenting work orders, work plans and technical advances

  • Oversee and perform the installation, upgrading, operation and integration of systems and equipment

  • Providing technical guidance to peers

  • Complying with the safety and health program in support of an incident and injury free workplace

What does it take to be successful in this position? While most people in this occupation would have completed a certified Department of Labor Electrical Apprentice program or have an associate’s degree in electronics or electrical engineering, the successful candidate will have experience with low voltage MCC electrical and controls equipment, preferred 1

3 years’ experience in PLC programming and 3

5 years’ experience in troubleshooting, designing, repairing, and calibrating communication, instrumentation and control systems and related equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid Driver's License required.

In addition, we are most interested in your experience with the following so be sure to highlight it on your application and/or resume:

  • PLC programming with function block or ladder logic

  • Motor Control Centers electrical and controls equipment

  • Variable Frequency Drives

  • Skilled in performing inspections and preventative maintenance on industrial electrical systems

  • Instrumentation and control philosophies

  • Basic computer knowledge in Excel, Word. Installing and configuring software specific to devices

  • Data radio programming and setup
