Line Technician Apprentice

We are looking for an individual who has the desire and self-motivation to join our team as a Line Technician Apprentice . This challenging and rewarding career is responsible for the construction, operation, and maintenance of high voltage electric lines, both overhead and underground.
Please note: This position is part of a formal apprenticeship program within the Line Technician trade. As such, pay for this position will begin at the entry level unless previous apprenticeship documentation is provided.
The Line Technician Apprentice is responsible for performing skilled activities in the installation, maintenance, switching and removal of overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems and residential and arterial street lighting systems. During the apprenticeship program, you will gain a working knowledge of line equipment, apparatus, and wiring as well as install, maintain, test, adjust, and repairing overhead and underground electrical lines which includes, but is not limited to:
Installing underground or overhead electrical lines by laying pipe, pulling wire and setting meters
Constructing, maintaining and testing electrical systems and related equipment
Repairing, maintaining and troubleshooting street light systems, poles, luminaries and circuits
Switching or rerouting electrical systems using proper sequencing and connections
Assuring compliance with safety standards and work practices
Operating line construction vehicles and equipment including wire pullers, bucket and boom trucks and various hand tools
Preparing materials for line construction and charging materials to appropriate job
Logging completed work orders and preparing reports
Operating equipment including backhoes, themo scan cameras, trenchers and hand tools
You will be expected to follow safety rules and company standards and may work in confined spaces, elevated work areas, and with bucket and boom trucks. You will work on a crew, be available to work overtime when needed and subject to afterhour’s callout and be responsible for tools, test equipment, and vehicles. In addition, you will be expected to perform and learn these skills by completing a four-year apprenticeship program. The program includes four years of correspondence course-work and "on-the-job" training. You will be expected to follow any regulatory compliance program we are mandated to follow by the Federal Government.
What will it take to be successful: While most people in this occupation would have a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and will have 1 – 2 years general construction experience, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of basic electrical theory and practice, industrial electronics, electrical systems, and/or a certificate of completion from a line school. The successful applicant must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 6 months of the date of hire. A Class A CDL (Air Brake endorsement), tanker endorsement preferred.
