Colorado Springs Utilities is hiring a strategic Manager to lead economic development and key business account management activities. As a highly visible and polished leader in our Customer Services Department, you will align Colorado Springs Utilities’ strategic objectives and vision to key account management and business development programs that support attraction, expansion, and retention activities. The success of these programs is instrumental in maintaining competitive rates for our community owners and achieving our financial and community economic development goals. How you’ll make an impact...

  • Prepare and present the value proposition of ‘Colorado Springs and the benefits of Colorado Springs Utilities as the utility provider. Directs leadership and experts to present and prepare proposals for economic development opportunities that comply with Colorado Springs Utilities and the City of Colorado Springs policy and economic justification

  • Lead the collaboration and approval of multi-party negotiations for significant economic development projects

  • Collaborate with community partners to encourage economic attraction, growth, and development in the region

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to align decisions and direction of teams with Colorado Springs Utilities' strategic objectives and vision

  • Represent the value of Colorado Springs Utilities in a variety of public engagements with audiences of varied backgrounds and significant political influence

  • Lead and develop a team of Business Account Managers and Economic Development professionals to serve customers of Colorado Springs Utilities

  • Lead the Economic Development Advisory Committee

  • Provide strategic leadership for business attraction, expansion, and retention activities critical for achieving community and Utilities economic development goals, including meeting financial projections, creating, and managing business incentive programs, and maintaining competitive rates for our community owners

  • Collaborate with System Planning & Projects and Operations divisions to ensure integrated resource plans are adhered to

  • Manage strategic customer relationships with business customers who have targeted or customized utility needs and actively participate in customer retention activities

  • Create detailed customer education, facilitate customer problem resolution, contract negotiations, and customer program management with our large business customers

  • Serve on community boards and commissions as required to represent Colorado Springs Utilities and form key relationships with community stakeholders

  • Monitor industry trends, economic development indicators, and best practices to provide excellent service to Utilities’ customers

Who you are…

The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader offering a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Public Adminstration, or a closely related field. Highly qualified candidates will have demonstrated success leading business development, economic development, or strategic planning in the Utility industry. We are also interested in your accomplishments and experience in the following:

  • Experience leading a team of Account Managers

  • Experience leading economic development strategies for municipalities

  • Strategic planning skills

  • Demonstrated understanding of Colorado Springs’ economic climate and key community stakeholders

  • Superior communication skills to effectively communicate, using both written and verbal communications, with diverse areas including the Utilities Board, Officers, Managers, customers, and employees

  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers and stakeholders throughout the organization and ability to influence using strong negotiation skills and tactfully navigating through challenging issues

  • Organizational and Strategic Agility – demonstrating a broad knowledge and perspective; ability to change direction quickly to achieve results that are in the best interest of the organization
