The Colorado Springs Utilities Public Affairs Department is hiring a Manager of Strategic Communications and Engagement to lead a skilled team of communications and community engagement professionals in effectively reaching our varied publics. As a highly visible and polished leader in our Public Affairs Department, you will align Colorado Springs Utilities’ strategic objectives with a focus on collaboration, a customer service mindset and strategic communications to effectively educate and engage customers, stakeholders and the public on the programs, offerings, brand, decisions and impacts of Colorado Springs Utilities.

How You’ll Make an Impact:

  • Build and execute a strategic communications plan spanning multiple channels and audiences to advance education, transparency and engagement with our customers

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to align decisions and direction of teams with Colorado Springs Utilities' strategic objectives and vision

  • Represent the value of Colorado Springs Utilities in a variety of public engagements with audiences of varied backgrounds and significant community influence

  • Collaborate with leaders across the organization to ensure their stories are being told effectively and accurately

  • Provide expert counsel to senior leadership on key messages, trending topics and time sensitive communications

  • Oversee a robust community engagement program to maximize touchpoints with key stakeholders and impacted publics

  • Offer strategic leadership and growth opportunities to a team of media relations and customer outreach professionals

  • Collaborate on key communications to elected and appointed governing bodies

  • Provide communications expertise and activation in times of crisis or emergency

Who you are... The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and engaged leader with a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Citizen Engagement or a closely related field. Highly qualified candidates will offer demonstrated success leading communications or public affairs efforts in governmental, public service or otherwise high-profile industries. We are also interested in your accomplishments and experience in the following:

  • Leading teams of people to accomplish a shared vision

  • Communicating professionally with high level leaders and/or elected officials

  • Building and executing highly successful marketing, media or messaging campaigns

  • Executing effective public engagement efforts
