As a Subject Matter Expert in the distribution system and equipment, you will be responsible as the technical lead to other operational engineers working closely with the distribution planning engineers, distribution operators, and first responders.

This is an exciting, high-profile opportunity to develop and execute new technology solutions that integrate with our risk models for integrated asset management, the future of microgrid and distributed energy resource applications, our Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), and process improvements increasing efficiencies among departments. You will support reliability, power quality, large customer operations, asset management, distribution maintenance operations, and future planning on the 12.5kV and 34.5kV electric power distribution systems. • Providing operations support in day-to-day activities, planned outage coordination, non-planned outage investigations, fault locating, loading concerns, voltage issues, harmonics, RFI/EMF investigations, and safety/operations procedure reviews

  • Reviewing the system coordination of line protection devices including reclosers, line fuses and interrupter switches while working with distribution planning and system protection groups

  • Developing logic for and analyzing data from various electronic devices such as electronic reclosers, power quality meters, RFI locating devices, and controllers for automated transfer schemes

  • Performing circuit analysis reviews for feeder loading, phase balancing, voltages, reactive power, protection coordination and contingency planning using Synergi® Electric modeling software

  • Leading or providing technical expertise in the development and evaluation of existing and future distributed energy resources, microgrids, demand-side management, distribution automation and smart technology programs including documentation

  • Managing activities around and participating in a Standby Engineer rotation that provides 24/7 engineering support, electric contact investigations and communications to Enhanced Power and Large Customers

  • Working with transmission, distribution and distributed energy resource planning engineers to identify areas requiring upgrades for capacity, reliability, voltage control, aging equipment and performance enhancement projects on the distribution and downtown secondary network systems

  • Leading and supporting procurement activities, project planning, project management and asset management initiatives which includes being a data steward to ensure that information from the field flows back to the models and systems

  • Providing as-needed training to internal stakeholders including Operations, Field Engineers, Account Managers and other departments

  • Documenting various study results and condition assessment findings in reports and long-term program plans including engineering economic and present value analysis

What will it take to be successful in this position?

  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering are preferred.
