Safety Programs Supervisor
Colorado Springs Utilities is looking for an experienced safety professional to supervise field safety representatives and manage safety programs. This position is responsible for managing and leading operational strategies which support Utilities' Safety Vision of Eliminating Incidents and Injuries. This position reports to the Safety & Health Manager and functions as part of the Safety and Health department's leadership team. The Safety Programs Supervisor is accountable for developing and achieving safety goals and regulatory compliance across the enterprise by working with general managers, managers, supervisors, and staff professionals. The Safety Programs Supervisor also provides consultation, advice and guidance regarding safety investigations and concerns. This position may also lead other employees outside of the department to improve safety and health programs.
Provide leadership, guidance and schedule/assign work
Review and evaluate work performance, coach and ensure personnel are trained
Participate in hiring processes and make hiring decisions
Participate as a member of the S&H Leadership Team in developing strategic plans, policies, and decisions
Prepare and administer projects and budgets
Prepare monthly and annual reports
Develop staff performance measures and professional development programs
Collaborate with stakeholders
Oversee the quality of Safety & Health incident investigations
Support the Contractor Safety program
Provide guidance and technical oversight to staff and customers; work with management in other departments to address and resolve issues
Plan, conduct and participate in various safety meetings
Develop methods to control, abate or correct health and safety hazards
Ensure safety and health programs are compliant with applicable rules, regulations and industry standards
Facilitate Worker Compensation case management processes
Develop policies and coordinate compliance of industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety programs
What would make you successful in this role? The successful candidate would typically have 10 or more years’ experience in safety management and have demonstrated senior-level expertise as a safety supervisor in the utility industry to include; leading, evaluating and mentoring teams, developing training programs, collaborating across multiple departments and robust experience with regulatory compliance; preferably in utility construction, electric generation, electric transmission and distribution. Preferably certified as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). Most people in this role would have completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental and/or Occupational Health, or Safety Engineering. Completion of a relevant Graduate Degree preferred.
