Senior Compensation Specialist

Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking to hire a Senior Compensation Specialist to join the compensation team. The Senior Compensation Specialist provides, develops, implements, and administers compensation programs that are cost-effective and that provide strong competitive positioning. In this job, you will provide solution-based compensation consultation internally to HR, leaders and other stakeholders.

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Develop, direct, plan and evaluate unit activities that respond to and meet organizational needs and requirements, including research and analysis of complex issues, formulation and implementation of best practices, and administration of strategies, processes and procedures

  • Consult with HR leadership and make recommendations regarding the most sustainable strategic path for the compensation function

  • Analyze compensation software and make recommendations to optimize the tool for compensation related activities

  • Develop compensation plans/models and make recommendations to maintain or correct competitive market position compliant with applicable wage and hour laws and regulations

  • Perform base pay administration, job analysis and salary structure adjustments

  • Conduct and execute market pricing studies for benchmark and hybrid classifications

  • Consult on organizational restructuring for business units, evaluate job duties for appropriate classification and make recommendations on special pay programs in accordance with all federal and state laws

  • Review and evaluate pay policies, procedures and practices and make recommendations for improvement

  • Evaluate and assign jobs into new or existing classifications and pay structures

  • Assist with merit matrix design, modeling and merit administration

  • Deliver exceptional customer service with a primary focus on operational excellence, proactive, competitive and cost-effective compensation solutions

What will it take to be successful? The successful individual will be a dynamic and thoughtful team member who can take action and think creatively about solutions. You must possess a strong commitment to a collaborative and consultative approach which balances customer input and feedback with an overarching goal to achieve strategic and operational excellence. Additionally, you will partner and build relationships with the HR leadership team, organizational leaders, and other company professionals for continuous improvement opportunities and to establish and drive overall compensation initiatives. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will possess 7 or more years of directly related HR professional experience, with 5+ years in a functional compensation role. A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, or closely related field and advanced Excel competency is required for this role. Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) candidates are highly preferred for this position.
