Senior Fixed Asset Accountant
Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking a Senior Fixed Asset Accountant to join the Accounting Section of our Planning and Finance Division. As a Senior Fixed Asset Accountant, you will gain a strong understanding of Colorado Springs Utilities’ operations, processes, and business objectives. With that, you will put your expert accounting knowledge and skills to good use as you perform professional senior level fixed asset accounting and reporting and a variety of complex analytical and research functions relating to the operations of Colorado Springs Utilities, certain joint ventures and authorities. Additionally, you will ensure accounting transactions, financial statements, processes, and controls are prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and applicable policies and regulations.
How you’ll make an impact:
Preparing journal entries, analyzing and adjusting ledger balances; preparing accounting and financial statements and reports
Analyzing financial and accounting information; recording and reconciling significant financial transactions to include capitalizations and retirements of fixed assets
Ensuring compliance and consistent application of the capital policy; applying appropriate principles, policies and practices; developing, preparing and documenting accounting policies and procedures
Leading the research and implementation of regulatory required accounting principle pronouncements for the organization with minimal management oversight
Assisting in monthly accounting close and annual external audits including preparing the published financial statements and accompanying notes
Data gathering and interpretation, research, summarization of findings and tracking records/results
Recommending changes/improvements based upon analysis and developing processes to increase efficiency or reduce cost
Answering complex inquiries from other staff members, employees, the public, departmental personnel and various groups and organizations
Leading projects and promoting teamwork
Anticipating customer needs and producing quality, accurate, prompt and reliable results reported in a clear and concise manner verbally and in writing

What will it take to be successful? The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a closely related field, five or more years of experience in a relevant accounting, auditing or finance field. Candidate should have exemplary computer skills and experience with related software. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license and fixed assets accounting experience in the utilities or energy industry is preferred.
