We are excited to offer the opportunity for a skilled technical project manager and leader to join our Information Technology team as a Senior Project Manager (IV). In this role, you will drive results and ensure that critical work is being completed in a manner that is timely, meets commitments, and supports the mission of Colorado Springs Utilities. Your team will be counted on for establishing, monitoring, and maintaining technology systems and services, driving technology strategy and vision to support our businesses providing critical services to the community.

If you are skilled in identifying the critical path, troubleshooting, expediting, and providing coordination between other departments to process work, we want to hear from you. You can expect to manage and monitor the entire workflow of over 200 projects happening at any given time, including a complex system of projects of a highly specialized nature with multi-million dollar budgets.

How will you make an impact?

  • Partner with Resource Planning and Intake to drive IT work to completion

  • Partner with IT sections and portfolios to facilitate the proper and efficient workflow through the system

  • Partner with Cyber and Systems Planning and Projects teams to coordinate IT impacting projects

  • Identify, troubleshoot and resolve constraints and roadblocks within the department and processes preventing work to be completed

  • Review all work coming out of the intake process, review against resource plans, and prioritize project plans and schedules

  • Facilitate interconnective of projects and how to complete multiple projects in a timely manner

  • Collaborate with IT leadership to resolve challenges and deliver work

  • Leads project and work teams by assembling appropriate technical personnel and assigning roles and responsibilities

  • Fosters and maintains positive customer relationships

  • Directs meetings and resolves conflicts while gaining member commitment to project assignments

  • Tracks, monitors, analyzes, and reports work costs, schedule and scope status

  • Drives timely project activities, as well as efficient and cost-effective use of time, materials, and resources

  • Identifies, assesses and resolves critical and potential problems to meet objectives/deliverables

  • Determines necessary changes or deviations to work/project plan

  • Prepares formal and informal communications as appropriate

  • Coordinates close-out activities at work completion in coordination with Release Management.

  • Organizes and manages multiple complex projects

What you will bring…

  • Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field preferred

  • A PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is highly preferred at the time of hire; or must be in progress

  • A broad understanding of technology workload as well as the interdependency of projects to ensure work is progressing

  • Skilled in removing obstacles hindering the division’s ability to deliver on all commitments, demonstrating an understanding of the complex nature of information technology culture and mission of our organization

  • Must enjoy breaking down critical path areas, addressing different constraints, firefighting issues, and pinpointing technical problems

  • Comfortable presenting, expanding on, and managing a portfolio of projects

  • Comfortable working in systems such as QuickBase, Microsoft O365 products, Power BI, Microsoft Project, and ServiceNow among other systems
