Senior Network Engineer

Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join our Network Infrastructure Services team. As a Senior Network Engineer you will be working with a team of talented network engineers responsible for managing diverse and growing Information Technology (IT) and Operation Technology (OT) networks that support Utilities’ Electric, Gas, Water and Wastewater Operations. This position will be responsible to proactively ensure the security, stability, and integrity of our core network infrastructure to ensure maximum productivity and availability, with an emphasis on technical accuracy and compliance with Colorado Springs Utilities standards, procedures, and policies. Experience in Network Security (firewalls and VPN administration) and Core Layer 3 routing protocols (MPLS, BGP, OSPF) are desired.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Administration/maintenance of Enterprise Firewalls and other network security infrastructure

  • Design, deploy, and manage Colorado Springs Utilities network security infrastructure to include firewalls, VPN concentrators, ACL’s

  • Perform network security audits and develop remediation plans

  • Provide technical guidance to network engineering staff and project stakeholders

  • Assess CVE impact/applicability to network equipment

  • Create and execute cyber remediation plans for network equipment

  • Network security technologies including: firewalls, encryption, certificates, ACLs, and VPNs

  • Administration/maintenance of DWDM/ROADM infrastructure and networks

  • Administration/maintenance of Core IT/OT MPLS and BGP networks

  • Deploy, and manage networks utilizing Network standards and technologies including: IP v4, IP v6, MPLS-TE, QOS, BGP, VRFs, and VLANs

  • Support and administer Colorado Springs Utilities networks to include LANs, WANs, and data center networks, including routers, switches, and other hardware

  • Develop automation tools for testing, configuration, auditing, and monitoring of fault and performance of network elements

  • Research, evaluate, design, plan, implement and test organization-wide network systems to support IT and organizational strategies and roadmaps

  • Develop and maintain network design and mapping documentation

  • Perform Project Management for network extensions, upgrades and lifecycle replacement efforts

  • Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software installations and upgrades

  • Implement and manage network monitoring, logging and alerting systems

  • Monitor and test network performance and provide performance statistics

  • Troubleshoots network issues, perform root cause analysis, document findings and implement appropriate corrective actions

  • Develop Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for implementation and maintenance activities

  • Participate in the Network Infrastructure Services 7x24 on-call support rotation that supports Colorado Springs Utilities LANs, WANs, data center networks, security equipment that cover a broad range of network standards and technologies including: IP v4, IP v6, MPLS, QOS, BGP, VRFs, and VLANs

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Adhere to IT Service Management processes for change and configuration management

  • Maintain network equipment asset records, related documentation and technical specifications

  • Develop and maintain equipment lifecycle replacement and capacity management plans

  • Deploy and manage network security solutions including firewalls, VPN Servers, ACLs,

  • Perform network security audits and develop remediation plans

  • Provide technical guidance to network engineering staff and project stakeholders

  • Develop and maintain procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery

  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements including NERC/CIP standards

  • Working to continuously evolve standards and procedures with a focus on enhancing efficiency, effectiveness and value of work.

  • Providing on-going capacity management, performance management, and support for re-design of network systems.

  • Create and maintain documentation related to network configuration, network mapping, and equipment service records

  • Manage testing and analysis of network equipment including complex software, hardware, and transmission systems

Industry Cyber Security and Network certifications, CCNA Security, CCNP Security, Ciena, Blue Planet MCP, Cisco, Juniper Certifications are a plus.
