Senior Project Engineer – Energy Supply Operating Engineering Group

The Senior Project Engineer

Energy Supply Operating Engineering Group will provide engineering services for the Energy Supply Department related to our coal, natural gas and hydro-electric units. The engineer will perform engineering and project management expertise as related to boilers, HRSG’s, turbines, condensers, cooling towers, heaters, pumps and piping. Additionally, the engineer will perform inspections and engineering assessments, manage assets and determine areas of improvement. Your engineering expertise and experience in power generation will be valued in this opportunity to advance your professional career in the Energy Supply Department.

Key responsibilities:

  • Providing professional engineering services, including system and component design, problem evaluation and resolution, and technical direction

  • Equipment inspections and engineering assessments, including preparing detailed reports

  • Evaluating, monitoring, directing and managing outside contractors, consultants and vendors

  • Engineering project management, including economic evaluation, schedule and time milestones

  • Preparing scopes of work, contracts and specifications

  • Determining areas of improvement or greater efficiency for reliability, performance and operations and maintenance processes

  • Developing and performing short and long term planning for outages and projects

  • Creates and maintains computer models to aid in analysis and operations of systems

  • Providing technical expertise and guidance to other engineers and technical staff

The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of power plant equipment, including steam/gas turbines, boilers/HRSG’s, condensers, cooling towers, feedwater heaters, pumps, piping and other mechanical equipment

  • Some knowledge of steam path audits, material specifications, material specifications, turbine blade repair, failure cause analysis and relevant code requirements

  • Project management principles and materials and work management processes

  • Contract preparation and management practices

  • Data analysis and research methods

  • Applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations

  • Written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills

If you have demonstrated experience in power-generation mechanical engineering, have managed complex technical projects, and are familiar with the principals of power generation equipment, we want to hear from you! This position will provide you the opportunity to work with a wide variety of stakeholders across organizational boundaries to manage, prioritize and execute projects and assignments.

What will it take to be successful in this position? A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a Bachelor's degree in Physics coupled with appropriate relevant experience is required. The ideal candidate will come with approximately 7 years professional engineering experience, preferably in a field applicable to electric power generation. Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) is preferred, with completion of the Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Exam expected.
