This job is eligible for relocation assistance to aid with the costs of relocating to the Colorado Springs area.
Our Fuels and Purchase Power group is seeking a Senior Real-Time Energy Trader to provide an efficient and reliable electric resource stack (owned-generation, contracts, and market transactions) along with marketing excess capacity to other utilities and marketers. In this role, you will forecast loads, renewable generation, and manage fuel supply for a diverse generation fleet while communicating with forward power trading, natural gas, coal, and transmission system operator desks.
A day in the life of a Senior Real-Time Energy Trader may include:
Working with system operators and trading desks to establish an efficient and reliable hourly resource stack while responding to changes in load using least-cost alternatives
Evaluating and monetizing surplus capacity positions utilizing substantial knowledge of financial analysis, changing market alternatives, and trading skills
Negotiating short-term purchases and sales and delivery contracts to ensure demands are met
Arranging for transmission and ancillary services associated with sales and purchases
Scheduling energy transactions and supporting our energy settlements group with month-end closeout
Monitoring daily interchange to verify the accuracy of data and efficiency of overall system operations
Responding to change load and supply situations
Submitting offers and ancillary service plans to WEIS Market
Maintaining balanced hourly interchange with WACM BA
Loading schedules to the scheduling system and reconciling them against pre-scheduled load data
Resolving interchange scheduling disputes with utilities and power marketing entities
Researching and adhering to industry regulations and practices, third-party contract terms, and applicable tariffs (e.g., WECC, NERC, FERC, WSPP, WPP)
Please note that the work schedule for this position operates on a five-week rotation across the following hours/shifts (5:30 AM to 5:30 PM | 5:30 PM to 5:30 AM | 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM).
Who You Are
Relevant and progressively responsible experience in an energy or power trading capacity (e.g., negotiating energy transactions)
Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related field is valued
Experience with Open Access Technology International (OATI) and Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) products are highly beneficial
Ability to make analytical decisions utilizing financial and mathematical skills
Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with internal and external customers
Ability to mentor and coach less experienced traders
