If this sounds like you, then perhaps working as a Tool Shop Technician at Colorado Springs Utilities is right up your alley. In this job, you will be responsible for the purchasing, maintenance, calibration, and repair of tools used by crews in electric, gas, and water. You will be challenged daily as you prioritize repairs and coordinate with crew foremen and equipment manufacturers as you ensure that construction crews are properly supported to perform their job.

The entry pay rate for this position is $29.97/HR. Once you complete the probationary period (typically 6 months) your pay will adjust to $31.47 (Single Pay Rate).

What you will be doing?

  • Managing the repair, calibration, and replacement of tools and equipment used by gas, electric, and water crews

  • Responsible for diagnosing, rebuilding, and repairing small engines, tools, and equipment utilized by crews, including; chainsaws, tampers, demo saws, and generators

  • Ordering specialized tools and equipment for crews

  • Preforming annual preventive maintenance on gas fusion equipment to meet PUC audit requirements

  • Prioritizing and scheduling repairs, coordinating with crew foreman, and manufacturers to meet work demands

  • Assessing the cost-benefit of repairing vs replacing tools and making recommendations

  • Identifying equipment in need of replacement and/or equipment that would increase productivity and efficiency and providing recommendations to leadership

Qualifications:

Qualified applicants will be naturally curious, mechanically inclined and have experience rebuilding and repairing small engines, as well as using a variety of diagnostic testing and tuning equipment. Prior experience using manual machining equipment, including metal lathe and milling machines is a plus. Additionally, we seek candidates who demonstrate the following:

  • Must be a self-starter and someone who works well independently

  • Experience managing and prioritizing repairs

  • Must be skilled in construction equipment operation, servicing tools, and managing repair schedules

  • Must demonstrate strong work ethic, accountability, and reliability
