Our Fuels and Purchase Power (FPP) is looking for a Trading Analyst who will provide support to Colorado Springs Utilities through the development and deployment of analytical models, optimizing and streamlining work processes, and enhancing data and system connections. You will focus primarily on the back-end development of tools, models, and reports to assist Front Office trading, Back Office settlements, and Financial Business Partners to achieve FPP’s goals of reliability, minimizing costs to ratepayers, and optimizing return on assets. Your professionalism, attention to detail, and willingness to learn will contribute directly to the mission of supplying reliable energy to our community and achieving our Sustainable Energy Plan.
What will you be doing...
Develop, maintain, and improve analytical tools, proprietary models, and data connections to enhance trading strategies and improve forecasting
Streamline work processes through back-end automation of repetitive and routine tasks and data extractions
Enhancement and redesign of existing in-house-built reports, models, and spreadsheets
Work with external Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system vendors for system enhancements, back-end changes, and testing of newly deployed modules
Assist with ad-hoc projects and data requests, as well as perform backup support for other trading analysts
Who you are...
Bachelor's degree; specialization in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Statistics, or a related field is preferred
VBA/SQL/Python coding experience
Advanced Excel skills and experience with PowerBI and SharePoint
Knowledge of electric and gas utility operations including power production, power delivery, and related fuel and power market operations is preferred
Experience with ETRMs (PCI, Allegro, etc.) and/or enterprise resource planning software (Oracle, Lawson, etc.) preferred
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong presentation skills and the ability to listen and respond effectively and influence others
Desire to create a positive collaborative work environment where employees feel empowered to bring new ideas to the table and take on additional work opportunities to develop their careers
Attention to detail and the ability to work independently
