Colorado Springs Utilities Support Services department, Gravel Production, is looking for an individual who has the desire and self-motivation to join our team as a Truck Driver. This challenging and rewarding career is responsible for supporting all four core utility services along with aggregate and recycling operations. This position is unique to Colorado Springs Utilities with the primary function responsible for operating roll-off equipment utilized in the transport of industrial waste, and recyclables from collection centers to landfill site or materials recovery facility, and related work as assigned.
In this role you will be responsible for:
Ability to safely operate roll off truck to collect solid waste and recycle material in 20 and 30 yards roll off containers.
Ability to perform a physically demanding job, loading and unloading, at times with no helpers.
Operate hydraulic hand controls to lift/load refuse and dispose of solid waste and recyclables at designated facilities.
Courteous interaction with our customers and perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Responsible for safely hauling materials that may require navigation through congested and confined areas.
Perform routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles such as checking fluids, safety equipment, and tires.
Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle using utilizing standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report); notes all issues on DVIR form for corrective review/repair.
Ability to operate tandem dump truck in support of utility installation and maintenance, debris transportation and aggregate stockpiling at CSU facilities
Operate various types of heavy machinery including but not limited to front end loaders, backhoes, skid steers and ride on compactors
Assist Gravel Production crews in mining and recycling activities using vibratory screen plants, impact crushers and conveyors belts.
Operate 500, 2500 and 4000-gallon water tanks and trucks in support of community events, emergency water supply and air emission permit compliance
The successful candidate must be flexible to work multiple rotating shifts which may include weekends, nights and on call hours. Additionally, overtime may be required as needed.
What does it take to be successful in this position? While most people would have completed two years of experience in field construction/maintenance operating larger trucks, the ideal candidate will have experience with water construction. A valid Commercial Driver’s License Class B is required. Class A and Tanker endorsement is preferred.
