Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking a talented individual to join our Billing and Business Solutions Section as a Utility Billing Supervisor . The Billing Team is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate billing for Colorado Springs Utilities customers including rate analysis, qualification, and verification; gathering and evaluating in-depth consumption history for customer accounts; resolving and generating complex billing; generating corrections; and analyzing account and financial data for accuracy. In this role, you will be responsible for providing leadership, development, and support to 10-15 staff. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing and improving the activities of the unit which includes overseeing Colorado Springs Utilities’ billing processes and programs, leading special projects, and overseeing compliance.
Supervising and developing employees including coaching, communication with staff, hiring and training, scheduling, and assigning work, providing guidance to staff, and conducting performance evaluations
Overseeing financial auditing control measures and participating in audits
Overseeing complex billing adjustments and corrections made by researching, analyzing, and identifying consumption inconsistencies and demand information for residential, commercial, and industrial customers
Formulating strategies for the timely and accurate billing
Developing, managing, and measuring a continuous improvement model for the performance of the unit including billing disputes, billing inquiries, billing channels, and quality control functions
Handling and resolving complex customer billing issues and de-escalating tense customer situations
Who you are: Ideally, you will come with a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or closely related field or an equivalent number of years of experience in leadership roles or in one of the areas of responsibility listed above. However, we are most interested in skills and abilities in the following so be sure to highlight these on your application and resume:
Specialized knowledge of utility billing controls to maintain the accuracy of billing data, prevention of errors or irregularities, timely processing, separation of duties, and detection of errors
Ability to think critically, problem-solve, and make sound financial decisions
Advanced knowledge of billing functions, rates, metering, and best practices, ideally within the utility industry
Excellent leadership, team building, and decision-making skills
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), friendly and supportive customer support skills, and the ability to remain flexible and balance multiple priorities are key attributes for the candidate
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite - specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
2+ years supervisory experience
Knowledge of rates, Utilities Rules and Regulations (URR), and tariffs
Proficiency in the Oracle Utilities Customer Care and Billing system a plus
