We are looking for an individual who has the desire and self-motivation to join our team as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator/Treatment Plant Operator Senior/Treatment Specialist . This challenging and rewarding career is responsible for operating and maintaining the treatment plant as well as handling the non-routine equipment or process control problems encountered at one of our two treatment facilities. This position will be hired at the entry, intermediate, senior or specialist level depending on your qualifications and experience.

This position requires the ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Operating a wastewater treatment plant efficiently and complying with all applicable federal, state and local regulations

  • Accurate data acquisition and maintaining records of the daily treatment operations

  • Understanding, monitoring and analyzing the treatment process

  • Troubleshooting routine, non-routine and complex treatment process, water quality issues or equipment problems

  • Demonstrating the importance of teamwork, collaboration and effective communication

  • Understanding of and experience with process instrumentation and SCADA process control

  • Performing equipment maintenance; calibration and maintaining all process instrumentation

  • Operating and maintaining a wastewater treatment facility on an assigned shift to provide 24/7/365 coverage

  • Performing sampling and testing on plant processes and interpreting results

  • Completing and accurately filing regulatory reports and pertinent legal documents

  • Knowledge of and operating treatment plant equipment

  • Writing training documents and SOPs for new operational procedures and/or equipment

  • Controlling, monitoring and changing plant operation processes

  • Inventorying and ordering treatment chemicals

  • Providing work direction and training to all levels of Treatment Plant Operators

  • Complying with the safety and health program in support of an incident and injury free workplace

  • Adhering to and understanding discharge permits and all other environmental procedures and concerns

  • Understanding and using work management processes including planning, scheduling, processing of work orders, and supply chain management

What does it take to be successful in this position? While most people already have completed a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and have one to four years’ experience in wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance. We are most interested in your experience in the following areas so be sure to highlight these on your application or resume:

  • Understanding and applying regulatory compliance procedures/principals

  • Treatment plant operations and maintenance procedures

  • Applicable water/wastewater mathematics

  • Chemistry, Biology, Hydraulics and Physics principles and processes

  • Understanding of Applicable laws and regulations

  • Treatment plant process control

  • Performing analytical instrument calibration and maintenance

  • Operating and troubleshooting treatment plant and process equipment

  • Mixing of chemicals used in various wastewater treatment processes

  • Understanding of Computer based process control (SCADA)

  • Coordinating activities of plant staff, engineers, and contractors as needed

In addition, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License or the ability to obtain and maintain

  • Treatment Plant Operator – Prefer at least a “D” State of Colorado Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification

  • Treatment Plant Operator Sr. – Prefer “B” State of Colorado Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification

  • Treatment Specialist
