The Water System Control Department is looking for an individual who has the desire and self-motivation to join our team as the Night Water Operations Controller. This challenging and rewarding career will monitor, control and troubleshoot all parameters in Colorado Springs Utilities raw, potable, waste and non-potable water systems.

As a part of Water Systems Control, you will be responsible for using the Colorado Springs Utilities SCADA system to perform monitoring and control of all Colorado Springs Utilities water system pressures, flows, and levels. You will coordinate with field personnel to ensure proper pressures, flows, and levels during scheduled and emergency situations. You will use hydraulic modeling and spreadsheet applications to prepare consumption forecasts and issue plant production requirements to meet demand and to provide efficient treatment plant operations.

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Coordinate equipment outages

  • Prepare required reports and daily logs

  • Analyze system conditions and correcting problems

  • Continuously searching for ways to improve control room operations

  • Provide information, as needed, to internal and external customers

  • Maintain system documentation

  • Represent Water Systems Control on various occasions as designated by the Water Control Room Supervisor

  • Model water distribution system conditions and future operations of the distribution system

What does this opportunity offer… This night shift position will reward you with intellectually challenging work, including complex water systems, operational decision making and interacting with several different groups on several different subjects. This is a diverse and technical environment offering a varied work-load from day to day.

Who you are... Successful candidates will have a working knowledge of SCADA control processes, consumption forecasting principles, treatment plant operational concepts, basic water theory and principles, distribution system principles, operations, control processes and maintenance requirements, applicable federal and state laws and regulations, and safety practices. Three or more years of relevant experience and a CCWP Distribution level 3 is preferred. All incumbents must be able to acquire a CCWP Distribution level 4 and Wastewater Collections level 1 within 30 months of his or her date of hire.

A s a Night Water Controller, you will be expected to work night shifts, including weekends and holidays, and overtime as business needs require. Additionally, periodic coverage for day shift as needs arise due to vacation and sick time; this time would be over-time added to your current shift, based on availability of current schedule.

For approximately your first 6 months of training you will be working days and then after your training is complete, you will move to a designated night schedule.
