Water Resource Engineer - Entry Level

Colorado Springs Utilities’ Water Resource Demand Management Section (WRDM) is seeking to hire an early-career engineering professional to provide support on various responsibilities and projects involving water resource planning and management. If you are eager to learn the complexities of operating and planning for one of the largest water providers in Colorado, we want to hear from you! This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience and on-the-job training on a wide range of issues critical to water resource management and will provide unique access to the Colorado water community.

Key Areas of focus:

  • Compiling and analyzing reports, records, and other data to determine water yields for existing water rights and future projects

  • Researching and reporting out data requests regarding water use and water supply

  • Assisting with interpreting and administering Colorado Springs’ water rights decrees

  • Working with special legal counsel and engineering consultants to develop, utilize, and protect water rights in compliance with local, state, and federal law

  • Completing contract administration responsibilities such as scheduling annual notices and collecting water sales data to support the preparation of billing requests

  • Providing technical support for various customer requests, such as augmentation service, development of substitute water supply plans, and water supply agreements

  • Completing daily water diversion accounting and reporting, including troubleshooting erroneous and missing data

  • Assisting with records reporting to internal and external customers

  • Maintaining and providing quality control for complex accounting spreadsheets, databases, and related reports to track City water use and supplies

Who you are... You will bring your Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited school, and be proficient in Microsoft Excel. To be successful in this position, you should have excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills, the ability to work both independently and in teams by leveraging strong interpersonal skills, and a desire to learn and grow professionally under the direction of Utilities’ subject matter experts. You must possess strong organizational and analytical skills and excellent attention to detail. Up to two years of professional-level engineering experience or graduate-level studies is desired, preferably in water resources management or the utilities industry, and an EIT certification is preferred.
