Our water treatment team is excited to add a motivated Operator/Specialist to our team. In this challenging and rewarding career, you will be is responsible for operating and maintaining the treatment plant as well as handling the non-routine equipment or process control problems encountered in the plant. You will be responsible for understating and use of conventional water treatment processes to perform successfully as an operator.

This position will reside at both the Pine Valley and McCullough Water Treatment Plants (near the Air Force Academy) and will be filled at one of four levels and pay ranges detailed below depending on the certification level of the successful candidate. The pay ranges include what you can currently expect to make during the probationary period (typically six months), as well as once you have completed probation when your pay rate increases by 5%.

Treatment Specialist - A $39.87 - $41.86

Treatment Plant Operator - B $34.45 - $36.17

Treatment Plant Operator - C $31.23 - $32.79

Treatment Plant Operator - D $28.31 - $29.73

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Operating a water treatment plant efficiently and complying with all applicable federal, state and local regulations

  • Accurate data acquisition and maintaining records of the daily treatment operations

  • Understanding, monitoring, and analyzing the treatment process

  • Troubleshooting routine, non-routine, and complex treatment process, water quality issues or equipment problems

  • Demonstrating the importance of teamwork, collaboration and effective communication

  • Understanding of and experience with process instrumentation and SCADA process control

  • Performing equipment maintenance; calibration and maintaining all process instrumentation

  • Operating and maintaining a water treatment facility on an assigned shift to provide 24/7/365 coverage

  • Performing sampling and testing on plant processes and interpreting results

  • Completing and accurately filing regulatory reports and pertinent legal documents

  • Writing training documents and SOPs for new operational procedures and/or equipment

  • Controlling, monitoring, and changing plant operation processes

  • Inventorying and ordering treatment chemicals

  • Mixing chemicals to proper/required concentrations

  • Adhering to and understanding chemical system safety, discharge permits, and all other environmental procedures and concern

  • Understanding and using work management processes including planning, scheduling, processing of work orders, and supply chain management

Who you are…

  • Colorado Water Treatment Operator Certification (A, B, C, or D) is required

  • A valid, unrestricted driver’s license is required

  • Knowledge or experience working in water operations or related field is beneficial

  • Completion of an academic or technical program in water environment technologies is valued

  • An understanding of chemistry, biology, hydraulics, mathematics, and/or mechanical concepts preferred

  • Must be self-directed, motivated, and consistently exhibit sound judgment and excellent communication skills

  • This position requires working rotating shifts, nights, weekends, overtime, standby, and holidays as business needs dictate
