Electric Meter Specialist

The starting pay for this position is $53.31 followed by an increase to $55.98 upon successfully completing probation (six months). This position is also eligible for relocation assistance.

Our Advanced Metering Team is seeking a journey-level Electric Meter Specialist to be our subject matter expert for electric metering (e.g., self-contained, transformer-rated, and primary metering), ensuring the proper installation and functionality of our single-phase and three-phase meters. This role provides you with opportunities to stay on top of the latest trends in metering by using the latest technology as well as mentoring the next wave of Electric Meter Specialists through our apprenticeship program. This position also operates on a rotating schedule of working both in the shop and out in the field, all while handling a variety of electric metering tasks and duties.

A day in the life of an Electric Meter Specialist may include:

  • Installing, exchanging, and disconnecting both self-contained and transformer-rated electric meters and related equipment

  • Performing inspections and ensuring proper operation of electric meters through testing, programming, repairs, and beta testing

  • Ensuring meter compliance with standards and specifications

  • Maintaining meter testing equipment to comply with industry standards

  • Maintaining records and entering daily meter transactions into multiple applications

  • Providing technical assistance and support to staff and customers

Who You Are:

  • Relevant experience (i.e., five years) in advanced electric metering in lieu of an apprenticeship; otherwise, completion of either a Department of Labor (DOL) certified electric meter apprenticeship OR an employer-sponsored non-registered apprenticeship program is required

  • Knowledge of electric metering (e.g., self-contained, transformer-rated, and primary metering)

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of electricity, trigonometry, vector diagrams pertaining to electrical metering, and fundamentals (i.e., construction, maintenance, testing, standards) of electrical metering equipment

  • Experience working with single-phase metering and three-phase metering, and working on transformer-rated meters

  • Experience safely working on energized circuits so as not to interrupt continuous service to customers

  • Experience with analyzing, testing, and programming electric meters to meet specifications

  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license is required for this position, as this position requires operating a Colorado Springs Utilities-owned vehicle.
