Fleet Supervisor

Our Vehicles and Equipment department is seeking a Fleet Supervisor to ensure the management and coordination of our fleet of vehicles. In this role, you will supervise service garage staff in the repair and service of vehicles, including overseeing the scheduling of work and monitoring for quality and productivity. You will also oversee a preventative maintenance program while maintaining a comprehensive record system of vehicle and equipment repairs.

A day in the life of a Fleet Supervisor may include:

  • Monitoring the capital and current budget for Fleet Services and preparing variance reports

  • Managing shop workload, studying industry trends, and other various activities

  • Overseeing a team of at least 6 technicians, which includes, but is not limited to: obtaining appropriate training and education, monitoring individual skill levels, verifying certifications, providing guidance, repair quality and more

  • Establishing contracts and service agreements with outside vendors (e.g., body repairs)

  • Evaluating and authorizing contracted repairs and verifying the accuracy and legitimacy of charges

  • Preparing product specifications and ordering fleet specialty parts according to approved processes, while maintaining appropriate inventory levels to ensure minimal downtime

  • Preparing technical and administrative reports and participating in projects related to the acquisition of vehicles and vehicle accessories

  • Reviewing tenders for automotive and related equipment

  • Liaising with the region, insurance companies, towing companies, and the public regarding departmental motor vehicle collisions

  • Communicating with internal and external customers

Who You Are

  • Relevant and progressively responsible experience in a supervisory/leadership capacity is valued, preferably within a fleet environment

  • Knowledge of basic automobile and heavy truck systems, mobile hydraulic engineering, and system design

  • Knowledge of technical aspects of vehicle specification, design, construction, and operation

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws, ordinances, codes, standard specifications, and plans

  • Ability to lead others in ways that ensure engagement, performance, satisfaction, trust, and commitment

  • Experience with managing budgets and contracts is valued

  • A CDL is required for this position

  • A valid, unrestricted driver's license is required
