Operations Superintendent -Treatment Plants Maintenance, Instrumentation & Controls, and Electric

Colorado Spring Utilities’ Treatment Plants – the Resource Recovery Facilities (Wastewater Treatment Plants) and Water Treatment Plants - Group is in search of a seasoned Operations Superintendent with skill in responsible asset management including implementation of robust preventative maintenance programs and swift response to and restoration of critical equipment failures.

This job will require considerable coordination and collaboration with four (4) other Operations Superintendents who manage nine (9) wastewater and water treatment plants; this collaboration will focus on plant operations to prioritize and execute plant Maintenance (ME), Instrumentation & Controls (I&C), and Electrical (E) (ME, I&C & E) tasks to minimize plant disruptions and ensure asset reliability and ultimately compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and requirements.

We are seeking those candidates with the ability to develop and implement short and long-range strategic goals, plans, programs, and initiatives in support of the Treatment Plants and Organizational Strategic Direction including, but not limited to, plant work and asset management, resource optimization, asset reliability and performance, employee growth/continuous improvement, succession planning, and safety excellence.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Managing the Maintenance (ME), Instrumentation & Controls (I&C), and Electrical (E) sections for the Resource Recovery Facilities (RRFs) and Water Treatment Plants (WTPs)

  • Coordinating with Plant Operations leadership to prioritize and schedule plant ME, I&C, and E tasks. Ensuring asset reliability, minimal plant disruption and ensure compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and requirements

  • Managing response to plant irregularities, failures, alarms, and emergencies through best management practices and standardization of operating and maintenance procedures

  • Managing large-scale ME, I&C, and E projects and programs

  • Hiring, supervising, developing, coaching, and mentoring staff including monitoring and evaluating staff performance. This position will directly supervise five (5) Operations Supervisors in the ME, IC, and E crafts with a total staff of approximately 32

Additional Focus Areas:

  • Using and enhancing work management processes to assist with planning, organizing, prioritizing and scheduling tasks/projects

  • Establishing policies, procedures, and work methods to monitor and optimize asset performance

  • Evaluating proposals, negotiates/executes/oversees key contracts and ensures contractor obligations and contract terms are met

  • Providing research, recommendations, and technical advice to and coordinating and collaborating with plant and engineering staff to ensure optimal operation of treatment systems, support improvements, and meet current and future operational and regulatory requirements

  • Overseeing the installation, maintenance, programming, calibration, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of a wide variety of equipment and systems

  • Planning and collaborating with operations supervisors, plant superintendents, engineering staff, and other personnel for plant O&M and capital budgetary needs

As a leader, emergency call outs after hours/holidays/weekends, reporting as an essential personnel, and the possiblity of working in inclement weather may be required as business needs necessitate

Who You Are: The successful candidate will come with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following crafts: Maintenance (ME), Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) or Electrical (E) and solid, hands-on experience in plant operations. Experience in water or wastewater treatment plant operations is highly desired. We are looking for candidates with exceptional leadership skills, strong sense of teamwork and collaboration, strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills, and demonstrated ability to successfully manage diverse teams.

Preferred Certifications:

  • State of Colorado water or wastewater treatment operator certification (must obtain D level at or before 1 year of employment)

  • Completion of certified Department of Labor electrical, instrumentation and control, or mechanic apprenticeship program

  • A valid, non-restricted driver's license is required for this role
